Examines the complex interplay among 11 preservice secondary math teachers' instructional approaches and existing sociomathematical classroom norms. Findings suggest that existing norms (traditional or constructivist) in classrooms profoundly affected preservice teachers' instructional methods and their interactions with cooperating teachers.
