What Is Readily Available during Reading? A Memory-Based View of Text Processing.
Cook, Anne E.; Halleran, Jennifer G.; O'Brien, Edward J.
Discourse Processes, v26 n2-3 p109-30 1998
Tests two views of how relevant global information becomes readily available to readers. Demonstrates that backgrounded information became readily available if it shared features in common with the current contents of working memory. Shows that this occurred independently of whether the information was relevant or thematically related; comprehension was only affected if the reactivated information was scenario relevant. (SR)
