Processing Inflected Morphology in Second Language Word Recognition: Russian-Speakers and English-Speakers Read Hebrew.
Wade-Woolley, Lesly; Geva, Esther
Reading and Writing: An Interdisciplinary Journal, v11 n4 p321-43 Aug 1999
Examines the relationship of second-language-learning patterns and experience to the acquisition of automatized processing skills in the morphological domain. Finds that Russian-speaking undergraduate students were significantly less accurate and slower than the English-speaking students at a naming task, and less impaired by experimental manipulations. Discusses results in terms of automaticity, print exposure, and age of second-language acquisition. (RS)
