Preservice teachers from seven universities were studied to investigate how they developed an awareness of the needs of academically diverse learners and modified instruction to meet those needs. As novices became more acquainted with classroom realities, they gained a clearer picture of the complexity involved in appropriate curriculum modifications. (CR)
