Accuracy in Detecting Truths and Lies: Documenting the "Veracity Effect."
Levine, Timothy R.; Park, Hee Sun; McCornack, Steven A.
Communication Monographs, v66 n2 p125-44 Jun 1999
Conducts four studies on detecting truth and lies. Suggest that the single best predictor of detection accuracy may be the veracity of message being judged. Finds that truths are judged with substantially greater accuracy than lies. Findings suggest that there is a need for reassessment of many commonly held conclusions about deceptive communication.
