Distinctively American: The Liberal Arts College.
Lang, Eugene M.
Daedalus, v128 n1 p133-50 Win 1999
Private, residential liberal arts colleges have endured significant pressures in recent decades, and have responded to societal, economic, and educational change in various ways. While all higher education institutions should nourish ideals and expand social perspectives and intellectual horizons, this is a particularly important role for liberal arts colleges, and they can collaborate effectively to accomplish these goals.
