Habel, John; Bloom, Lisa A.; Ray, Marissa S.; Bacon, Ellen
Remedial and Special Education, v20 n2 p93-105 Mar-Apr 1999
A study of nine Native-American students and eight peers (grades 5 through 12) with behavior disorders who were receiving special education services investigated the students' self-concept within the central values of the Native-American circle of courage: belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. Results found that students typically experienced academic failure, alienation, and limited opportunities for decision making, responsibility, or caring for others. (CR)
