Family Structure, Schoolmates, and Racial Inequalities in School Achievement.
Bankston III, Carl L.; Caldas, Stephen J.
Journal of Marriage and the Family, v60 n3 p715-23 Aug 1998
Using Louisiana Graduation Exit Exam data, this study examines the influence of schoolmate family structure, racial concentration, and socioeconomic status on the academic achievement of individual African-American and White students. It finds that many educational disadvantages of segregated minority schools are related to the predominance of single-parent families. (Author/EMK)
