Krajcik, Joseph; Blumenfeld, Phyllis C.; Marx, Ronald W.; Bass, Kristin M.; Fredricks, Jennifer; Soloway, Elliot
Journal of the Learning Sciences, v7 n3-4 p313-50 1998
Inquiry is an essential component of science learning. Eight case studies of students as they designed and carried out their own investigations during two projects showed that middle school students were thoughtful in designing investigations and planning procedures. Areas of weakness included failure to focus on scientific questions and to systematically collect and analyze data to draw conclusions. (Author/SJR)
