Uses an analogue methodology to examine clinical hypothesis formation and perceived supervisor characteristics with metaphorical or literal language when used by a counselor supervisor. Suggests that because the need exists for effective methods to promote development of counselors' cognitive skills, additional research to examine the use of metaphorical interventions in a supervision context is needed.
