Men's Gender Role Conflict and Use of Psychological Defenses.
Mahalik, James R.; Cournoyer, Robert J.; DeFranc, William; Cherry, Marcus; Napolitano, Jeffrey M.
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v45 n3 p247-55 Jul 1998
The relationship between men's gender role conflict and use of psychological defenses is studied (N=115). Canonical correlations indicated that men experiencing greater rigidity about being successful, powerful, and competitive; expressing emotions; and expressing affection to other men use more immature and neurotic psychological defenses. Gender role strain is discussed. (Author/EMK)
