Gender Differences in Undergraduates' Body Esteem: The Mediating Effect of Objectified Body Consciousness and Actual/Ideal Weight Discrepancy.
McKinley, Nita Mary
Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, v39 n1-2 p113-23 Jul 1998
Explored whether feminist theories of how women come to view their bodies as objects to be watched can be useful in explaining gender differences in body esteem. Results with 327 undergraduates show that gender differences in body esteem were no longer significant when objectified body consciousness was entered into the equation. (SLD)
