Investigates the relationship between possible selves, academic achievement, motivation, and self-esteem with 289 high school students 14-15 years old. Results show that those who imagined themselves achieving as a result of hard work and referred to specific, elaborated positive selves outperformed the other groups in academic achievement and persistence on tasks.
