A Child's Day at School: Variations in More or Less Effective Schools in Low- and Middle-Socioeconomic Status Contexts.
Taylor, Diane L.; Teddlie, Charles; Freeman, John; Pounders, Mickey
Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk, v3 n2 p115-32 1998
Examines the school day experiences of four third graders at schools that vary by effectiveness and student body socioeconomic (SES) status. Their experiences highlight the mundane way in which the average school day passes. Students have little opportunity for critical thinking, and except in the more effective lower SES school, they have very fragmented days. (SLD)
