Errors and Obsolete Elements in Assigned Library of Congress Subject Headings: Implications for Subject Cataloging and Subject Authority Control.
Chan, Lois Mai; Vizine-Goetz, Diane
Library Resources & Technical Services, v41 n4 p295-322 Oct 1997
Analysis of 9,442 headings assigned by the Library of Congress to bibliographic records disclosed errors and obsolete elements involving MARC coding, terminology in main headings and subdivisions, application of subdivisions, and in mechanical elements. Awareness and understanding of patterns of errors and obsolescence in subject headings should contribute to improvement in their assignment and authority control. (Author/AEF)
