Sexual Attraction toward Clients, Use of Supervision, and Prior Training: A Qualitative Study of Predoctoral Psychology Interns.
Ladany, Nicholas; O'Brien, Karen M.; Hill, Clara E.; Melincoff, Deborah S.; Knox, Sarah; Petersen, David A.
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v44 n4 p413-24 Oct 1997
Interviewed 13 predoctoral psychology interns about experiences of sexual attraction toward a client. Results indicate that sexual attraction consisted of physical and interpersonal aspects. Therapists believed that they were more invested and attentive than usual to clients to whom they were attracted, but the attraction also introduced distance, distraction, and lessened objectivity.
