Precious Beads Multiply: Family Decision Making and Girls' Access to Primary Schooling in Ghana.
Yeboah, Alberta
International Journal of Educational Reform, v6 n4 p412-18 Oct 1997
Female education in Africa has historically lagged behind that for males. Although enrollments improved after Ghana's independence, enrollments for both sexes have declined steadily since 1981. This study, which investigates the family decision-making dynamics regarding girls' full participation in schooling, found that school quality and a daughter's performance are the basis for rethinking a daughter's continued access to school.
