The Children in the Story: Metafiction in "Mary Poppins in the Park."
Didicher, Nicole E.
Children's Literature in Education, v28 n3 p137-49 Sep 1997
Reflects on story and storytelling. Uses the "Mary Poppins" series to chart the increasing "literariness" of P.L. Travers' novels, contending that "Mary Poppins in the Park" is the most clearly and consistently metafictional (i.e., self-consciously reflexive). Calls for examining more children's books for how they participate in the larger critical concerns of their time. (PA)
