Cutting the Gordian Knot: A Two-Part Approach to the Evaluation and Professional Development of Residents.
Gordon, Michael J.
Academic Medicine, v72 n10 p876-80 Oct 1997
Proposes an alternative to current use of a single evaluation of medical residents to both monitor achievement of performance standards and to provide guidance concerning professional development. Suggests a dual evaluation system consisting of (1) a faculty-controlled, quality-control system for performance and (2) a resident-controlled, guidance-oriented system focused on self-assessment, peer/faculty coaching, and reflection.
