Language Socialization Practices and Cultural Identity: Case Studies of Mexican-Descent Families in California and Texas.
Schecter, Sandra R.; Bayley, Robert
TESOL Quarterly, v31 n3 p513-41 Aut 1997
Investigates the relationship between language and cultural identity as manifested in the language socialization practices of four Mexican-descent families in the United States--two in Texas and two in California. The study suggests that differences found between the Texas and California study participants can be explained partly by the sociocultural ecologies of the two respective communities and the depth of their ties to the United States.
