This review of the literature on mentoring first identifies benefits (such as increased self-esteem and reduced truancy) and barriers (such as insufficient numbers of mentors and inadequate mentor training and support.) It then examines school-based solutions in six brief descriptions of effective school-based initiatives. (DB)
