Explored early childhood teachers' perceptions of gifted and talented children and their programming needs through open interviews with three rural teachers. Found that gifted children in their care, aside from perhaps the exceptionally or profoundly gifted, remain unidentified, and that teachers see their roles primarily as facilitators, reserving use of more interventionist approaches mainly for children with deficit needs.
