Why the Young Child Has Neither a Theory of Mind nor a Theory of Anything Else.
Gellatly, Angus
Human Development, v40 n1 p32-50 Jan-Feb 1997
Critiques the metaphor of child-as-theoretician. Argues that comparisons between the cognitive development of an individual and the historical development of a scientific theory are deeply misleading. Further argues that, although there are similarities between children's cognitive enculturation and adults' continuing education, individual cognitive structures are of a different order from public theories.
