The Disjunction Between Lecturers' Conceptions of Teaching and Their Claimed Educational Practice.
Murray, Kate; MacDonald, Ranald
Higher Education, v33 n3 p331-49 Apr 1997
A survey of 39 business faculty at one university investigated perceptions of their role as lecturer and the purpose of lectures, tutorials, and assessment. Most saw their role as imparting knowledge, supporting students, motivating students, facilitating learning, or some combination, but their expressed attitudes and beliefs about teaching were not translated into teaching strategies and methods. Possible explanations are explored. (Author/MSE)
