Private Conversations: Listening for Leadership in Real Schools.

Summarizes an ethnographic study examining how private conversations (between a principal and a fifth-grade teacher) connect to educational leadership and reform issues and which research methods can discover the meanings therein. To move beyond the status quo (a problem with student discipline), both participants had to reconstruct relevant shared meanings and expand notions of teacher responsibility. (23 references) (MLH)
