The State of Tutelage in Lower Canada, 1835-1851.
Curtis, Bruce
History of Education Quarterly, v37 n1 p25-43 Spr 1997
Explores the part that education played in British efforts to reform society following the failed Canadian Rebellion of 1837-38. Examines the inherent contradictions in establishing liberal democratic institutions to suppress and change a national character. British colonial authorities used these changes to create the infrastructural context for a capitalist economy. (MJP)
