Linking Parental Perceptions to Interactions in Young Children with Autism.
Kasari, Connie; Sigman, Marian
Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, v27 n1 p39-57 Feb 1997
Relations between parental perceptions and observed parent-child interaction were studied among normally developing children, children with autism, and children with mental retardation (N=82 total). Parents who reported their autistic children as more difficult temperamentally had children who were less engaged and less responsive when interacting with parents or experimenters. Parents reporting greater stress had less socially responsive autistic children. (Author/PB)
