Mothers' and Fathers' Beliefs about and Spontaneous Participation in Their Toddlers' Pretend Play.
Haight, Wendy L.; And Others
Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, v43 n2 p271-90 Apr 1997
European American, middle-class husbands and wives were observed separately during parent-child play and then interviewed separately. Both fathers and mothers generally characterized pretend play as enjoyable, facilitative of children's creativity and cognitive development; most subjects participated in pretend play. Individual differences in parents' beliefs and their actual participation were related, but these relations differed by parent gender. (EV)
