Making Decisions on Assessment Methods: Weighing the Tradeoffs.
Rahn, Mikala L.; And Others
Preventing School Failure, v41 n2 p85-89 Win 1997
Quality and feasibility factors affect decision making in choice of assessment methods. Quality factors include the psychometric concepts of reliability, validity, and fairness. Feasibility factors include cost, time, complexity, and acceptability. Tradeoffs are illustrated in two case studies that examine single versus multiple purposes, high versus low stakes, embedded versus stand-alone tasks, voluntary versus mandatory participation, and standardization versus flexibility.
