The Relative Contributions of Research-Based Composition Activities to Writing Improvement in the Lower and Middle Grades.
Sadoski, Mark; And Others
Research in the Teaching of English, v31 n1 p120-50 Feb 1997
Investigates the relative effectiveness of general modes of instruction and specific instructional activities using a nonexperimental methodology and a group of 16 teachers and 275 students, grades 1, 3-6, and 8. Finds that only one combination of activities was associated with large gains (especially in the lower grades) and this combination included inquiry, prewriting, writing about literature, and the use of evaluative scales.
