The Social Studies Teacher's Lament: How Powerful Is the Textbook in Dealing with Knowledge of Ethnic Diversity and Attitude Change?
Sanchez, Tony R.
Urban Education, v32 n1 p63-80 Mar 1997
Investigates whether increasing the African American experience in U.S. textbooks promotes significant knowledge increases of that group, and if this improves white racial attitudes towards African Americans. Explores the effect of teachers' utilization of the textbook's technology on knowledge acquisition and attitude change. Results show the text produced statistically significant knowledge gains but no impact on attitudes. (GR)
