Gender Role Socialization and Adolescents' Reports of Depression: Why Some Girls and Not Others?
Obeidallah, Dawn A.; And Others
Journal of Youth and Adolescence, v25 n6 p775-85 Dec 1996
Differences in depressive symptoms were explored as a function of young girls' adolescent gender role orientations and sex typing in their parents' marital roles. Results with 89 seventh- and eighth-grade girls show less depression among girls rating themselves as more masculine and their parents' marriage as more egalitarian. (SLD)
