Distant, But Not Distanced: A Learner-Centered Approach to Distance Education.
Wolcott, Linda L.
TechTrends, v41 n5 p23-27 Oct 1996
While bridging physical distance between instructor and student in telecommunications learning is important, the potential for psychological and social distancing should not be overlooked. This article presents three phases of learner-centered distance teaching: preactive, interactive, and postactive. A table summarizes strategies for minimizing psychological distance by building rapport, decreasing isolation, and enhancing interaction. (PEN)
