Individual- vs. Culture-Level Dimensions of Individualism and Collectivism: Effects on Preferred Conversational Styles.
Kim, Min-Sun; And Others
Communication Monographs, v63 n1 p29-49 Mar 1996
Develops and uses a mediation model to investigate the links between culture, individual values (independent and interdependent construals of self), and perceptions of conversational constraints. Finds culture-level individualism and collectivism systematically related to individual-level cultural orientations (independent and interdependent self-construals), which, in turn, were systematically related to the perceived importance of conversational constraints.
