Ethnovisual and Sociovisual Elements of Design: Visual Dialect as a Basis for Creativity in Public Service Graphic Design.
Shiffman, Carole B.
Journal of Visual Literacy, v14 n2 p23-39 Aut 1994
When designing public service materials, graphic designers should consider the social and cultural influences of their audience. By recognizing different world views and ethnic experiences, the "visual dialect" can be applied to create effective designs that respond to audience needs and reach educational goals. Techniques for creative approaches to visual dialect are discussed, with seven pictorial examples. (LAM)
