Black Racial Identity Attitudes and Stages of the Life Span: An Exploratory Investigation.
Plummer, Deborah L.
Journal of Black Psychology, v22 n2 p169-81 May 1996
Explores construction of black racial identity attitudes during three stages of life span. Responses from 476 blacks between ages 14 and 59 reveal inverse relationship between immersion attitudes (strong attachment to black culture and its expression) and age: the older the participants, the less likely they were to express immersion attitudes. Patterns in expression of these attitudes and implications for multicultural training are discussed. (GR)
