The Conflict Talk of Mothers and Children: Patterns Related to Culture, SES, and Gender of Child.
Eisenberg, Ann R.
Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, v42 n3 p438-52 Jul 1996
Analyzed conflicts between 80 mothers and their 4.5-year-old children. Found significant effects for SES and gender, but not for culture. Mothers differed in their forms of opposition depending on child's sex. Girls used justification more often and an explicit "no" less often than did boys. Working-class pairs had longer, more aversive conflicts than middle-class pairs. (HTH)
