Applying multivariate statistical techniques to a nationally representative sample of 687 students at historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) and 742 students at traditionally white institutions, this study finds that HBCU may have an educational justification, in that African American students at HBCU are more likely to pursue postgraduate studies and become professionals.
