As parent participation in school-site committees increases, teachers must remember to speak clearly on complex topics and avoid educanese. Seven suggestions to help teachers communicate well include slowing down, enunciating, teaching vocabulary, requesting translations, respecting differences, avoiding hidden cultural chasms, and remembering that parents are partners.
