Teachers' Responses to Noncompliant Students: The Realities and Consequences of a Negotiated Curriculum.
Ennis, Catherine D.
Teaching and Teacher Education, v11 n5 p445-60 1995
This study examined contexts that influenced urban high school physical educators' conceptualizations of realistic student goals, noting how teachers changed curriculum content to handle student noncompliance. Field notes and interviews indicated that teachers substantially changed their programs over time, and many programs exhibited characteristics of elitist, discriminatory, and decontextual curriculum approaches.
