What Is "Appropriate Practice" at Home and in Child Care?: Low-Income Mothers' Views on Preparing Their Children for School.
Holloway, Susan D.; And Others
Early Childhood Research Quarterly, v10 n4 p451-73 Dec 1995
Examined 14 low-income mothers' socialization goals for their preschool children and the role of child-care providers in achieving those goals. Subjects' views of preschool learning were not entirely congruent with a constructivist approach to learning, and were linked to other cultural models of childrearing, including respecting authority, contributing to one's family or community, and allocating teaching responsibility.
