Predicting Children's Literacy from Mother-Child Conversations.
Reese, Elaine
Cognitive Development, v10 n3 p381-405 Jul-Sep 1995
Examined the effects of mothers' conversations with their children on children's emergent literacy. Found a clear and fairly strong relationship between maternal conversation and children's literacy, especially for children's print concepts, vocabulary, and story comprehension skills. Children's early conversational participation showed a stronger relationship to their later story understanding and narrative abilities than to their print and vocabulary skills. (AA)
