Long-Term Effects of a Family History of Traumatic Death on Adolescent Individuation.
Bradach, Kristin McClenahan; Jordan, John R.
Death Studies, v19 n4 p315-36 Jul-Aug 1995
Examined direct and transgenerational effects of traumatic loss on current functioning in college students. As expected, subjects directly affected by traumatic deaths reported more psychological distress, less individuation from parents, and poorer college adjustment than control subjects. Traumatic death apparently disrupts families' ability to impart necessary developmental tasks. (RJM)
