Interviewing Preschoolers: Effects of Nonsuggestive Techniques, Parental Coaching, and Leading Questions on Reports of Nonexperienced Events.
Poole, Debra A.; Lindsay, D. Stephen
Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, v60 n1 p129-54 Aug 1995
Explored preschoolers' eyewitness testimony under conditions designed to maximize or degrade the quality of their event reports. Found that 3- to 4-year olds were highly accurate when questioned nonsuggestively about an engaging experience after a short delay, and could provide substantial information when prompted. However, they made many erroneous reports when parental coaching and leading questions were used. (AA)
