Ethical difficulties of bereavement research are described, and guidelines are provided. Issues discussed include gaining access and obtaining informed consent. Preventing possible harm to respondents is achieved by not applying pressure, training interviewers, supervising the interviews, insuring confidentiality, minimizing stress, and engaging in rigorous methodology.
