Mother's Supervision of Their Children's Peer Play: Relations with Beliefs, Perceptions, and Knowledge.
Mize, Jacqueline; And Others
Developmental Psychology, v31 n2 p311-21 Mar 1995
Studied mothers' belief in the importance and modifibility (versus innateness) of children's peer relationship skills and social competence. Maternal perceptions of childrens' competence were negatively associated with the extent of mother's involvement in childrens' play, whereas the quality of supervision was predicted by knowledge of socialization strategies and the interaction of beliefs and knowledge.
