Acquisition of Speech by Children Who Have Prolonged Cochlear Implant Experience.
Tye-Murray, Nancy; And Others
Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, v38 n2 p327-37 Apr 1995
Prelinguistically deafened children (n=28) with cochlear implants performed imitative and structured spontaneous sampling speech tasks. Results found children who had used implants for at least two years acquired some intelligible speech; children who received implants before five years of age showed greater benefit than later recipients; and children who recognized more speech while using implants spoke more intelligibly.
