Infants' Visual Preferences in the Presence and Absence of Auditory Stimulation.
Moore, David S.
Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, v59 n1 p164-77 Feb 1995
Two experiments studied whether altering an auditory stimulus' rate of change affected infants' fixation of changing visual stimuli. Results demonstrated that infants exposed simultaneously to auditory and visual stimulation showed a reduced tendency to fixate on relatively more visually stimulating events. Heart rates also accelerated during auditory stimulation. Sensory inputs thus interact to influence infant behavior. (TM)
