Exploring Supervision History: An Invitation and Agenda.
Glanz, Jeffrey
Journal of Curriculum and Supervision, v10 n2 p95-113 Win 1995
The paucity of historical research in supervision can be attributed to marginalization of historical inquiry, lack of clarity about supervisory duties, a positivistic model of social research, and unfavorable images of supervision and supervisors. Research needs include accounts of early 20th-century practicing supervisors, educational biographies of well-known superintendents, further investigation of school supervision in Europe and Colonial America, and examination of supervision in various institutional settings.
