Common misconceptions about student ratings of faculty include the following: (1) students must sign the forms; (2) teachers of large classes receive lower ratings; (3) teachers who assign more work receive lower ratings; (4) colleague rating is more reliable; and (5) faculty with high research productivity receive higher ratings.
